Video consoles, televisions and personal computers have all been luring our kids to stay inside the house for hours on end. Instead of playing with a ball or running around with the dog, more and more kids are now starting to become sedentary because of gadgets like portable video games and other gadgets. The lack of outdoor activity and exercise is probably a huge contributing factor to the rise of obesity in kids in the country today.

One of the ways parent can encourage their children, particularly those that are younger than ten, to go outside and play, especially during summertime, is by buying outside activity toys that are both interesting and can be enjoyed by many.

Below are 6 of the most loved outdoor activity toys by kids:

Water Guns

Kids have fascination with water, whether its summer, spring, fall or even during winters. One way to encourage your kid to get out and play with friends or family is through water guns. If you do not have a pool in your house, this outdoor activity toy can also be used to help kids cool down during hot summer months. However, it is important to remind your kids not to squirt water on passing people because not everybody wants to get wet. Furthermore, remind your kids to just aim below the neck so that water will not get inside the ears. This is also a precaution to prevent others from getting hurt.

Sandboxes

If you have a medium-sized backyard, you can probably buy a sandbox for your kids. Having an animal shaped sandbox filled with sand will surely occupy most of your kids' time, especially during sunny days. Many working parents also use sandboxes to play and bond with their kids during weekends.

Bubbles

Blowing bubbles is one of the most inexpensive outdoor activities that children love. There are many inexpensive bubble machines that make huge kid-sized bubbles or even dozens of small bubbles at a time. You will surely hear giggles and laughter from your kids from playing bubbles. You can also teach your kids to make their own bubbles from ingredients that can be found inside the home or garden. This is a fun way to start teaching your kids to explore and experiment.

Garden toys

If you have a garden or a small patch of land in your backyard, you can ask your kids to help you with your gardening. Kids under ten will surely love to bring your soil using their toy wheelbarrow or help you plant flowers with they tiny plastic shovels and spades.

Inflatable pool or water slides

If you do not have a swimming pool, inflatable water slides and pools will really have your kids jumping for joy, especially during the hot summer months. Although a bit pricey, you can be assured that this toy will provide your kids with endless hours of fun swimming, splashing, sliding and even paper boat raising.

Toys Kids Can Ride On

Carts, mini cars, trikes and scooters are just some of the outdoor activity toys that will surely occupy most of your kids' time. Nowadays, there are many types of toy cars available – police car, convertible, push and ride cars, mini cycles and so much more. In fact, some cars even have horns. For kids over seven, bike, carts and scooters may be more appropriate. Just be sure to buy proper protection gears, such as kneepads and helmet.
